![]() Currently using Apple notes but I’d love to hear any alternatives you all might suggest if you have any (or subs where I can find some recs).Simplenote is an easy way to take notes, create to-do lists, capture ideas, and more. I hope this helps anyone using it for important information to consider switching. Sorry to be such a bummer, I just wish I could go back in time and choose an alternative. I had an issue with syncing between Simplenote on my laptop and phone last year and I found their customer service to be much better at that time (they never solved the issue, but at least they read my emails). Especially given how long Simplenote has taken to offer anything of substance. I assume there is no way to retrieve the observations and quotes I had gotten down that are now lost. But several correspondences later, it was clear the responder still has not even read my complaint (suggestions to check the trash or the note history, despite all of this being covered in my email). Their website states they prioritize data loss and will do everything they can to help. ![]() I have been most disappointed with Simplenote’s customer service. I should have been more careful and found an alternative sooner, so I definitely bear some of the responsibility here. ![]() I am writing a book and those observations were critical for an important scene that I can’t recreate (political event, not an interview). I don’t know how to recover it but suspect it is lost forever. Unfortunately though, Simplenote no longer had the earlier writing it initially re-assigned to an unrelated note (even though I left it in both notes, 2023030304). Thankfully, I had screenshots of these notes. (so I lost about an hour’s worth of writing). When I got home at 3:00 p.m., the Simplenote note 20230304 says it was last synced and updated at 11:30 a.m. I have screenshots of the note 20230304 at 12:30 p.m. Regrettably, I never took screenshots of that writing since it was now in two places (I assumed that was sufficient backup).īy time I got home from the event, Simplenote failed to sync most of the remaining content I would write that morning (this is not including the chunk of writing it mistakenly assigned to another note). I copy-pasted the missing content back into my working note (20230304), but I never deleted it from the incorrect note because I wanted to check the time stamp later on. When I searched for a keyword in the quote, I found all of the missing content in a completely unrelated note (note 20230303). I scrolled up within my note to factcheck a quote with someone and realized half of the things I’d written had gone missing from that note. But just in case something was up, I started taking screenshots of what I was writing to prevent data loss.įast forward to an important event I was covering last Saturday (note 20230304). Thinking I must have accidentally done it myself, I continued to use the app for work. I thought I’d lost the content until I found it in another recent note I’d written. ![]() Twice in the past month, some of the content I had written in my active event note synced with a different note (not all of it, just about half of it). I always create a separate note for every event, the title being the date. I’m a journalist, and I use the app for work on a daily basis. After nearly 8 years, I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend this app. ![]()
